Linolitas, a private limited company, was founded in 1993 as a trading business and is 100% privately owned. Currently, all company shares are held by a Belgian company.
In 1996, the company began specialising in flax fibre processing and quickly became one of the largest companies in Western Europe in this field, focusing on the combing, carding, and cottonising of long and short flax fibres.
The processing of flax fibre is divided into several operations carried out by specialised companies. Each intermediate product in this chain is treated as a separate unit—either sold to the next producer for further processing or used as a final product.
Traditionally, flax fibre is used in the textile industry to produce linen yarn, weave fabrics, and sew linen garments.
The biggest transformation is occurring in the range of applications for flax products. Its use in non-traditional industries—such as chemical, automotive, paper, and construction—is growing. This helps stabilise sales for flax processors and encourages new investment in the sector.
